First, there are 3 places where you can either update or clear your current status: 1) the dashboard; 2) your profile in the CSM; and 3) your public profile.
When you update your status, it will immediatly appear in the 3 locations listed above and if your settings permit an activity story will be published about your new status.
The length of your status is limited to 300 characters. Beyond text, status' currently only support links. In the future, we do plan on adding additional support such as video.
From within your settings, you can select whether everyone, all members or only friends are able to see your status when viewing your profile. Likewise, you can also control whether an activity story is published when you update your status and if so, who is able to see that story. When a status becomes old news, you can clear it from one of the 3 locations listed above via the Clear button.
Please note, clearing your status will only clear it on your profile. If an activity story was published that will remain in the database. However, you can delete your activity stories in your profile by hovering your mouse over a story and clicking the X.
